In the Details. I love how even moss and dirt get swept in Japan. The level of care and attention to detail there is so nice. It really reflects and makes your enjoyment of your surroundings so much better. A clean space is a great place. This is at Tenryuji Temple in Arashiyama. This photo is also another inspiration for 2011 of care for the work you do.
Mount Fuji. This is one of my favorite photos from my trip to Japan this Fall. This is a 700 year old pine tree grown to look like Mount Fuji at a temple in Ohara. It was really awesome to see and think of all the hard work that has gone into caring and shaping it over time. This is the last image for 2010 and my inspiration for hard work in 2011.
12 in 1. The folding cube calendar is back. Download and make it from the links below. All 12 months are included. Print out the pattern pages along with the current month and build 12 cubes over the year. Stack the cubes to create a larger pattern as the year goes. Or make just one cube and swap out the month panel each month.
Basics. While I was walking to Fushimi Inari Taisha in Kyoto I spotted these painted parking rock curbs and loved how they mirrored each other. Then I noticed the red fire box, spray painted blue trashcan and the gray air conditioner. The way all the colors lined up made a great composition and I really liked how the white line was a good break in it too.
People. When I take pictures I tend to leave people out of them. But as time has passed I’ve started to like the random things you can capture people doing. I really liked how this guy came and sat down right in front of me and started to clean his binoculars. It was so unexpected. This is in front of a really old tea house in the hills of Arashiyama.
