Landscape 101. I did some illustrations for the April issue of Dwell which is out now. I worked with them on interpreting 5 different landscape styles for the ‘Landscape 101’ article. 

A Breakthrough Idea

Train, cable car, bus. The journey to the top of Koyasan is such an amazing one. You take a train from the city and slowly watch it fade as you pass through smaller towns, then villages, then farms and finally countryside that then takes you up into the mountains. It’s a really beautiful train ride. I took this photo of the bus at the Koyasan cable car station right after being dropped off by it on my journey back to Kyoto after spending the night in a Buddhist temple here. Amazing!

Rain in Tokyo. Japan never ceases to amaze me with how polite people seem to be towards one another. I love how there is even umbrella etiquette on a rainy day. When you come close to someone walking with an umbrella they either lift it or lilt it to the side so as to not hit you. I can’t think of that really ever happening to me at home.

I really like this corner at the beginning of the tree-lined street, Omotesando. It always has a great collection of billboards on all four corners which gives me something fun to look at while I eat my yummy melon pan from Andersen Bakery. Mmm, the best baked goods.
